Sophia Cowell is a Tennessee-born, Connecticut-based mixed media artist working primarily with oil paint and pastel. Guided by both intuition and a sustained study of color theory, she uses contrasting textures and color relationships to construct visual spaces where opposing emotional states can coexist simultaneously.
Sophia has exhibited in venues across New York City and Connecticut, including the solo exhibition Spring Cleaning at the Bed-Stuy Art House in Brooklyn. Her work has also appeared at the Greenpoint Gallery, Spectrum Gallery, Gallery 53, and the Eli Whitney Museum.
